Les Miserables (the new one) royally sucked. it was pretty boring as far as musicals go but this whole 'making actors who have little to no singing experience sing' is an annoying trend. it was three hours long. Russell Crowe was the worst singer of them all. only one of the actors for the main characters had experience and even played their character on stage as Eponine. if you like musicals, skip this one. three. hours. it gets a 5/10.

"The Purge" was nothing short of terrible. it fails at being a thriller with the most predictable ending ever. ever. im too frustrated with that movie to type up everything about it that sucked. the universe it takes place in makes no damn sense, restrictions on the purge we not specified even though they were mentioned. if all crime is legal i think that murder would actually be pretty low seeing as nobody wants to die, and it would most likely be gangsters hunting each other. i think the number one illegal activity done would be drugs, like all of the stupid teenagers would have parties with a ton of alcohol and the marijuana since it would be legal for underage people to drink, heck i bet every 18-20 year old would just get drunk and everyone else would do the weed or whatever kids are into. piracy and selling pirated DVD's and knockoffs openly would be rampant. looting stores would be the second highest crime being done. openly doing graffity, having block parties, vandalism, a ton of illegal everyday stuff would be openly done. that's why i think the premise of rich people only hunting poor people is unrealistic and more than likely they would fight back. they would be equal in firepower since only "below level 10 weapons" are allowed. i think arguing the hypothetical aspects of "The Purge" 's universe should be a separate thread so i'll stop here. 2/10.

hopefully someone at some point jumps in with their own reviews, if not itll just be an archive of me talking about movies. if you guys have an hour or so to waste, find the purge on megashare (dont waste money on it) and watch it so we can argue about how that universe works.

"Django Unchained" is my new first place tarantino favorite. it has love, it has revenge, and of course a cameo from Quentin. Candie is perfectly diabolical, Steven is a menace, Schultz is a genius and a fool, and Django is the real life Siegfried. i laughed, i cried, and i loved that movie. 10/10

"28 weeks later" was ok as a sequel. it plays out on the classic 'people going places they shouldn't so of course it costs everyone their lives' gimmick. this movie has taught me that even spouses leave each other behind when zombies approach but strangers will sacrifice themselves for each other. it does play with the idea of how quarantine + military takeover x security breach^panic = military deciding to just kill everyone when they can't tell them apart from zombies in a crowd and firebombing the city. i have to question their lack of preparation for re-contamination. why make people return if they aren't 10000% sure contamination won't happen? and i am peeved about the lack of follow-up from the survivors from "28 days later". 7/10

i know everyone likes to crap on "the Blair Witch Project" for being a cliche, but a lot of people forget that it was the movie that started the modern found footage trend. it does suck if you watch it in the middle of the day with the sunlight and noisy streets and interruptions, but it sure scared me when i watched it after 11 pm around halloween. i like the fact that you don't even see the witch or what the witch does to them, it's one of the few instances where ambiguity helps the story instead of leaving you confused/annoyed. Cracked mentioned that they really did scare the crap out of the actors camping out there at night, which i think payed off based on their genuine-looking fright and exhaustion. (i don't condone mistreating actors for the sake of "art") i personally consider it a classic. 7/10

"Inception" is, as those of you that know me know, my all time favorite movie. i used to obsess over the argument of whether or not Cobb really woke up. the issue is resolved, since someone pointed out that his wedding ring is his real totem and the spinning top was just Nolan being sneaky. according to that theory Cobb really did go home to his kids and his poor wife really is dead. i wish there were blueprints for how the dream machine in the suitcase worked and what the tubes attached to their wrists did since its clear that those tubes do NOT puncture anything. anyway its a high budget high quality well-written sci-fi and it blew me away the first time i saw it. i bought the soundtrack too, the flowy ambient music goes perfectly with the dream sequences, and the lack of annoying unnecessary soundtracks would make the Cohen brothers proud. you have to see it to believe it, you'll be convinced that Inception was made up by your mind trying to tell you to wake up. 10/10

"Magic Mike" was fun to watch, but itll be awkward and boring if you aren't attracted to men. Channing Tatum actually used to be a stripper, and up until this movie i have never seen a performance like that. they seem to be running some kind of party room/ special event center as opposed to a strip club with regulars and more managers. not much to say about the plot since it really isn't about the plot, and most of the effects are concentrated into the dancing scene. there are vast differences with the experience of male versus female strippers. the biggest difference is that female strippers are more dehumanized and stigmatized by society. jealous women call them whores but neglect the fact that their husbands and boyfriends are the ones going in the first place. anyway my favorite scene was where they danced in the army uniforms. 7/10 for the laughs. in real life i would never go, im too shy and the idea of a strangers crotch being 2 inches from my face is not how i want to spend any day.

"The Emperor's New Groove" deserves a mentioning. however you'd say that. Cuzco seemed to be a mayan emperor or heavily resembling traits of south american royalty as seen by their use of aztec blue. izma is diabolical and hilarious, and i liked the character growth that is so rushed in movies nowadays. it was hilarious throughout, not much to say since pretty much everyone in america has seen it once in their life. 8/10

"Branded" which you can find on megashare since it didn't do very well so its hard to find any rent-able copies, was weird. weird in a way that would be very difficult to explain. i can't form the words to describe the monster-things that were there. just watch it trust me. balloon monsters? they live on buildings? why are the electronics monsters better than the fast food monsters? it's never explained where the hell they come from and what their purpose is. i really loved the way they made very close knock-off brands to real life companies. you can tell it was low budget too, the film gets pretty low quality in some takes. the story makes no goddamn sense in any way shape or form. here's a link to the preview: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HInOg12jMiY but even that makes no sense. but someone watch it and help me out here, this is higher priority than "the purge". i'm sure the movie had a message that got lost by those balloon alien monster things. the movie seemed very anti fast food. its not really about corruption since the protagonist uses scams himself to defeat the ... things. 6/10 but only because of the funny off-brands.
